Professor Adina Sterling
This is Why I Leave: Race and Voluntary Departure
Thursday, December 5, 2024
6:00 - 7:00 P.M. EST
Why do employees quit their jobs? And, what differences are there in quitting jobs across racial groups? Academic research has had conflicting findings about the answers to these questions. Using a novel approach employed on data from 1996-2019, Adina Sterling will present new findings from a study on the reasons workers quit, and how this differs across workers by race and gender.
Professor Michael Morris
Tribal Psychology in the Current Times
Wednesday, December 11, 2024
7:00 - 8:00 P.M. EST
Professor Michael Morris discusses his award-winning 2024 book "Tribal: How the Cultural Instincts that Divide US Can Help Bring Us Together." He traces the tribal instincts underlying US political polarization and election denial, showing that a science-informed diagnosis is more constructive than most popular accounts of tribalism. More generally he argues that these evolved psychological systems can be harnessed by managers to rally collective action and by leaders to spark change.
