New Data from Sky Survey Co-Created by Late Alumnus

Published on January 18, 2024

Along with two other amateur astronomers, late CBS alumnus David Mittelman '81 created the "MDW Hydrogen-Alpha Sky Survey," a unique, high-resolution survey of the entire night sky collected with H-alpha imaging. In partnership with Columbia University, new night sky images and data from the survey were recently released, including details on the hydrogen emission from gas and stars in and around the Orion constellation. Learn more about Mittelman's work and view the new images here.
