CBS Alumnus Has a Hand in New Spider-Man Movie
The latest filmic incarnation of the Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man occurs in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” a movie which has a personal connection for Sharad Devarajan '04. The 2023 animated Sony Pictures film includes the character Pavitr Prabhakar, the Spider-Man from the print comics that Devarajan, an adjunct professor at CBS, had produced 20 years earlier in India for Marvel. Devarajan localized the character of Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man, as Pavitr Prabhakar in the comics to make him more relatable to Indian audiences, including his personality, clothing, and customs. Now, Pavitr has come back to life as a supporting character in the newest Spider-Verse film to help save the world from a supervillan and is considered to be the first Indian superhero in a blockbuster American film. Read more about Devarajan's contributions to the film in the Wall Street Journal.
