In a recent opinion piece for Fortune magazine, Nicole Pullen Ross '99, head of Sports and Entertainment Solutions at Goldman Sachs Private Wealth Management, considers how NBA draft picks can build generational wealth using their career earnings with personal finance advice that can also be applied to ordinary individuals. Pullen Ross suggests that draftees, mainly younger in age, should think as a CEO would and surround themselves with the right team of advisors, such as accountants, lawyers, agents, and managers, to guide and support them. Further, she argues that athletes create spending and savings plans from the start of their careers, determining their “needs” versus “wants” and factoring in income security, taxes, wellness and healthcare, retirement, family support, and legacy.
